Your Adventure Starts Here!

This tour is designed exclusively for the Spruce Creek High School Band and Color Guard. It visits my all-time favorite Christmas Market destinations in Germany, Austria and France.

Your Adventure Starts Here!

DAY 0: Overnight Flight to Germany

Meet your group at the airport for your overnight flight to Germany.  Air Berlin: Departure 17:55 from MCO.

Day 1: Austria

Join your Exploring Europe guide and driver to begin your Christmas Market adventure at the Munich Airport.  Enjoy a scenic journey through beautiful Bavarian countryside enroute to Austria. Our first stop is beautiful Mondsee, home of the basilica made famous as the “wedding church” in the Sound of Music. Later, arrive at your Salzburg hotel followed by dinner at one of David’s favorite restaurants. Driving: 4.5 hours. Walking: moderate. Sleep 2 nights in Salzburg. Dinner.

Day 2: The hills are alive with the Sound of Music

This morning, enjoy a drive through the Saltzgammergut countryside visiting several sights made famous by the movie, The Sound of Music. Later, we will return to Salzburg to explore the Christmas Markets, the castle and the old town. Dinner and entertainment are left up to you tonight. Driving: 2.5 hours.  Walking: moderate.

Day 3: Bavaria

Today, we will leave Austria and travel to the heart of Bavaria.  Arriving in Nürnberg you will experience Germany’s most famous Christmas Market. All music and guard students will perform today in the main market square beginning at 15:30. Enjoy a traditional Nürnberger sausage meal for dinner or lunch.  Sleep 1 night in Nürnberg.  Driving: 4 hours. Walking: moderate. Dinner or lunch.

Day 4: Hitler and Rothenburg

Nürnberg also harbors terrible memories of WWII Nazi Germany. Today you will have an opportunity to visit Hitler’s documentation center where countless thousands of Jews were “processed” before being shipped off to concentration camps in Europe. Later, arrive in the festive little town of Rothenburg to experience its medieval heritage and Christmas Market.  Sleep 1 night in Rothenburg.  Driving 1.5 hours.  Walking: moderate. Dinner.

Day 5: Vive la France

Today, we will zip along the famous Autobahn in our super-charged Mercedes bus! Crossing the Rhine River, enter France and set up in Strasbourg the Capitale de Noël.  You’ll have the afternoon and evening to explore this very French town, experience the famous French cuisine and visit the historic town center and its festive Christmas Market. Sleep 1 night in Strasbourg.

Day 6: Castle Neuschwanstein

After breakfast, we will drive to the village of Schwangau. You will have an opportunity to enjoy the village atmosphere, hike in the spruce woodlands, and enjoy the pristine lakeside. Also, enjoy a guided tour of Schloss Neuschwanstein, famous as the home of “Mad” King Ludwig II of Bavaria. This castle is the model upon which Walt Disney conceived “Cinderella’s Castle” at the Disneyland resort. Then, settle in for a drive to Munich for the evening.  Sleep 2 nights in Munich. Walking: strenuous.

Day 7: Munich

This morning, visit Hitler’s first concentration camp in Dachau. Learn how in 1943 this became the model for all future terror and concentration camps. Munich, like Nürnberg, is known for its Christmas Markets and holiday cheer. Enjoy the afternoon in town. Tonight, we’ll meet for a festive dinner at the world-famous Hofbraühaus complete with a German oom-pah band.  Dinner.

Day 8: So Long, Farewell

Transfer to the airport for your flight back to Florida. Depart Munich at 08:20 and arrive in Orlando at 15:05 on Air Berlin.
