The Best of London and Paris tour provides an opportunity to settle in and experience two of Europe’s major capital cities. London presents a relatively stress-free introduction with non-stops flights from North America, almost no language barrier and easy transportation. All this coupled with our comprehensive itinerary and an opportunity to experience some of the best theatre in the world makes London a perfect beginning to this tour. The EuroStar high-speed train will zip you from London to Paris in less than three hours. In Paris, we’ve included all the major tourist sights and must-see attractions, but there is also plenty of time to slow down and enjoy the experience.
– $2479 + air (per person sharing a double or twin)
– $700 extra for a single room (limited availability)
– $100 discount if making payments (beyond the $400 deposit) by cash, check or money order.
Let’s plan to meet in our hotel at 3:00 p.m. to get acquainted. Then, join your guide for an open-top bus tour of London’s most famous sights. After a bit of free time, we will cap off the day with dinner at one of David’s favorite eateries. Sleep 4 nights in the Chiswick neighborhood of London. Walking: moderate. Dinner.
This morning, we will head out early to catch the ceremonial changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace. Later, enjoy a tour of Westminster Abbey, where kings and queens have been crowned and buried since 1066. We will also set you up with an open-top hop-on-hop-off bus pass (valid for 2 days) so you can get the “lay of the land” and see all of London’s famous sights. Enjoy the afternoon and evening on your own. This would be a good evening to check out London’s theatre scene. Book something in advance or see what’s on and pick up your tickets today. Walking: Strenuous.
Today, enjoy the English countryside beginning first with a visit to Stonehenge. Lying prominently on the flat Salisbury plains, Stonehenge is Britain’s most important prehistoric monument. The standing stones are anywhere between three- and four-thousand years old, their purpose now largely obscured by time. But we do know that some of the stones were brought in from as far away as Wales. Later, we will depart Stonehenge and transfer to the city of Bath. Famed for its well-proportioned Georgian architecture all laid out in elegant terraces, crescents and squares, Bath deserves its status as England’s only World Heritage City. The Romans first discovered its unique thermal spring but it was really during the 18th and 19th centuries that the town grew to prominence, attracting both royalty and many well-known celebrities of that era to enjoy the health-giving properties of the spa water. Enjoy a free afternoon in Bath for independent shopping and sightseeing. Return to London by 8:00 p.m. for a London pub group dinner. Driving: 4 hours. Walking: Moderate. Dinner.
There are no planned group activities for today. We’ll get you pointed in the right direction and set you up with a Hop-On-Hop-Off Open Top bus pass. Dinner and your evening activities are all up to you!
We will have an early start time this morning to make our way to St. Pancras International Station. Then we will be off to Paris aboard the Eurostar high-speed train through the Chunnel. Once in Paris, we get set up at our hotel and strike out, focusing on Paris’ historical center surrounding our hotel neighborhood. On our short walking tour, you’ll discover the wonder and history of Notre Dame Cathedral, the opulence of the nearby Ile St. Louis and reflect on the atrocities of WWII at Le Mémorial des Martyrs de la Déportation. Cap off your day with a dinner at one of David’s favorite restaurants and a sightseeing cruise on the Seine River. Sleep 4 nights in Paris. Walking: moderate. Dinner.
Enjoy an ascent up the Eiffel Tower this morning for far-reaching vistas of the sprawling metropolis of Paris. Then we’ll head up to the artsy neighborhood of Montmartre to experience this quaint bohemian village and the nearby Sacré Coeur church. Your tour leader can suggest activities ranging from shopping, museums, the catacombs, church towers, and more. Walking: moderate.
Enjoy a visit to the Louvre Museum to experience what some consider the world’s best collection of art. Armed with my “Concise Guide to the Louvre”, you will have several hours to explore the art, history, and wonder of this magnificent museum. Following the tour, we’ll stroll through the adjacent gardens ending on the famous Champs-Elysées where you can enjoy the afternoon on your own. Later, let’s gather a picnic on the grassy meadow below the Eiffel Tower to watch it sparkle, twinkle and shine. Walking: moderate.
Explore more of Paris on your own today. Your guide will be available to assist with sightseeing hints and suggestions such as museum entrances, shopping, and tours. You may want to enjoy a free afternoon with the benefit of the Hop-On-Hop-Off Paris Sightseeing Bus, making your travels fun, educational, and stress-free. Later, we’ll meet for an aperitif followed by a farewell feast where we can recount tour memories and toast our friendship. Walking: your choice. Dinner.

BATTLEFIELDS OF BELGIUM & FRANCE –Absolutely incredible! Perfect mix of seeing major sites, enjoying leisurely walks through historic towns and grand cities, drives through villages frozen in time and some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. Our hotels were each a separate and unique experience, from staying in a chateau in Normandy, a 900 year old inn on Mont Sainte Michel, or modern hotels in the hearts of Brussels and Paris! And the food! David’s personal concern for having a dining “experience” made a huge impression on my friends who had not previously toured with him. Our guide was “the” David McGuffin, and he lived up to my high expectations. He actually caused me to enjoy myself more than I had expected by submersing us into local culture. His acceptance of other’s ideas and flexibility in program planning, allowing us to go our separate ways, and his arranging fantastic local meals gave us the confidence to do the same when we were on our own! All in all, David provided us a fantastic time. – Andy, Jacksonville, FL
GERMANY-AUSTRIA-SWITZERLAND-FRANCE –Well worth the money spent!!! We enjoy going with David on trips, because we KNOW the food will be GREAT & the hotels will be nice! Really enjoyed the time in the “Paris neighborhood” where we shopped for our picnic. The cheese shop was amazing, as was the aged sheep’s milk cheese from France that we purchased there! – Laurie, Jacksonville, FL
GERMANY-AUSTRIA-SWITZERLAND-FRANCE- I’d have to say that Paris was the best as there was so much to see and experience and the food was very good. I was very impressed with the amount of information David shared with us daily and how knowledgeable David is regarding each of the countries and the sites that we visited. – Donna, Jacksonville Beach, FL
FRANCE AND GERMANY- My favorite wow moment was he Food!! My favorite moment would be one morning sitting at a cafe with the Eiffel Tower in view the beautiful French language all around me having just been to Notra Dame that morning it was just a great take in moment!! All things considered, the tour was Fantastic and can’t wait to do it again. – Samantha, Jacksonville, FL
ROME TO PARIS – David is amazing! His easy going demeanor creates a comfortable and relaxed mood, even though I know he is working like crazy to make sure all is going well for us. He is so patient and focused when helping his clients as well. Local places are sooooo much better than the chains- LOVE the charm and warmth these places provide. YOU WILL EAT VERY VERY WELL!!! This is a flat out guarantee- it’s my favorite part of the trip! – Jason, St. Johns, FL
