Today, I am off to Europe for a few weeks of tour guiding. Before I get there and start to work, I decided to try an experiment with my flight attendants.
I often notice tha flight attendants put up with a lot of unecessary abuse from airline passengers. They work hard and must always have a smile on their face.
So today I delivered a Starbucks gift card to all the flight attendants on my flight to Zurich. I’m interested to see if it puts a smile on their face and makes them happy. I’ll let you know.

Have a great trip! Think of me next week when I am at school working! Let me know how the flight attendant thing goes.
It has been about 24 hours since I completed Delta Flight 66 from Atlanta to Zurich and now can logically comment on my experience.
I handed twelve envelopes, containing a Starbucks gift certificate and thank you note from me, to the flight attendant greeting passengers at the aircraft door. He accepted them and I went on to my assigned coach class seat. We took off and about 45 minutes into the flight the beverave service began. As the attendants arrived with the cart they thanked me for the Starbucks gift cards, poured my wine and water and moved on. The flight attendant I met at the door offered to get me a glass of higher quality wine for the business class area. However, I said it could wait since I already had a drink.
After dinner, the flight attendants got me and the young lady sitting in the seat next to me several glass of wine from Business class.
Before deplaning the next morning I think all the flight attendants made a point to personally thank me for the gift cards.
RESULTS: The flight attendants were grateful and once warmed up to the idea of getting the gift cards, seemed to at least seperate me out from the rest of the passengers. For me, it gave me a “feel good” experience because I was doing something that was totally unexpected. I’d do it again.
It is March 26 and I am heading home from two weeks of leading tours in Europe. I’ve just given out my second set of Starbucks gift card to the crew of Delta Flight 109 from Madrid to Atlanta. This group of flight attendants are so very appreciative of my gift. Before we even set off many of them have come by and thanked me for the gift cards. I’ve got a glass of champagne from the front cabin!
The flight from Madrid to Atlanta continued to be a positive experience for me and the hard-working flight attendants. Through the course of the day I reveived several “perks” such as ice cream, mixed nuts, port, wine and many kind smiles. The most rewarding experence came at the end of the flight when one flight attendant came to me and said the my giving the crew a gift “set the tone” for the flight experience for everyone.
I felt good, the flight attendants felt good and all the folks of the flight benefited as well.
That’s awesome. If I had the money I would do that too. They deserve it for what they do and put up with.
Only a fool would not appreciate a Starbucks gift card!
Well done! A little kindness goes a long way.
So what do you have in store for the flight attendants on Thursday?
I’m thinking of something. You want to chip in?
Wow. It’s nice to know there are still people who show appreciation to those who deserve it.
Nice to focus on the positive – most people only bring to attention the negative. I am sure they appreciated it
After hearing the stories in recent weeks about unruley travelers, I appreciate the flight attendant’s work even more.
Sure, just let me know how much.
Working in a service industry for many years, I can say that a little goes a looooooong way! A positive, simple gift can leave a lasting impression. And who doesn’t love Starbucks?!
